Research Interests:

Using technology to support older and disabled people

Summary

Guy, a sociologist from Lancaster University, has been working in the area of technology to support older and disabled people for over ten years. During this time he has been fortunate to co-design Scotland’s first residential ‘smart’ home for a severely impaired couple. This led to him being asked to design a demonstration ‘smart’ flat in Scotland. He has also consulted on the design of over fifty technology-enhanced accommodations for adults with severe autistic spectrum disorders who were entering the community for the first time. Guy has worked on a number of academic projects in relation to technology, older people, and the home, and espouses person-centred design. He co-edited the book ‘Responsibility and Dependable Systems’ and is Co-Chair of the International Medical Informatics Association’s ‘Smart homes and ambient assisted living’ working group. Guy also maintains his ‘SMART Thinking’ website www.smartthinking.ukideas.com.
