Research Interests:

Graphics, Visual Programming Languages, Collaboration Systems, Messaging Systems and Application Frameworks

Summary

I have keen research interests in Visual Programming Languages, specifically in the context of direct manipulation interfaces and shell environments. Prior work done as my PhD research explores the area between visual depictions of icons and folders and the Prograph visual programming language. This work is currently being extended to explore work flow programming and analysis within the context of e-Science.

I am interested in structures for modelling 3D environments using Binary Space Partitioning, including progressive texture, geometry and lighting algorithms. I am exploring how the user interface features required by visual dataflow languages might fit into the environments offered by First Person Shooter games, e.g. Doom 3.

I have a research interest in Instant Message systems, primarily using the Jabber framework, and integration of this technology into collaborative environments. One such environment is MudOS (a system used for Multi User Dungeons that supports collaborative programming and interaction) and the application of mobile instant messaging. I have research interests in Application Frameworks that support e-Science, most notably the Globus Toolkit and OMII. Previous work involves the SoFAR framework for Agent technologies and also the SuperView framework. The Globus Toolkit is used in the Grid Based Medical Devices for Everyday Health project.
