Research Interests: Summary
I’m just entering the first year of my PhD and am greatly excited by the prospect of working in the field of Ubiquitous Computing. I feel this is one of the most relevant fields in computing, and one that could potentially have the ability to change the face of the world today. I am intending for my PhD to address recent studies that computer games lead to poor health by displacing a regime of proper exercise. It is my hope to use ubiquitous computing gaming to produce a game that will directly benefit someone's health, and then test this game to show whether or not this is the case. Gaming is already being used in some fields as a means of physical therapy. However, my plan is to produce something of a more general nature. It is also important that, although the game will promote fitness and health, the gamer will be playing it purely for fun. Hopefully, the outcome of my PhD might show that a shift in gaming could take place so that it is no longer seen as a detrimental activity, but one that can improve our lives. |
