Summary

Theme: Participant Responses to Virtual Agents in Immersive Virtual Environments.

Role: Research Fellow

PhD theme: In a nutshell, the hypothesis behind this research is that a virtual humanoid endowed with realistic behaviour models will evoke more appropriate levels of perceived presence, co-presence and believability in a user than a humanoid with no innate behaviour. The specific behaviour chosen for this research was gaze and body posture and the control variables were various human psychological states such as emotions.

Project contributions: The purpose of this research is not only to examine the relationship between posture and emotion but also to deliver affective virtual humanoids to incorporate into projects within Equator. Hence, there is a significant importance in making the humanoids sufficiently believable and platform independent.
