The University of Southampton

The Intelligence, Agents, Multimedia (IAM) Group follows a broad-based, multi- and inter- disciplinary research agenda that focuses on the design and application of computing systems for complex information and knowledge processing tasks.

Part of the Scool of Electronics and Computer Science, the group has around 80 researchers. The three research themes also combine synergistically in a number of grand challenges for computer science - including grid computing, the semantic web and pervasive computing.

Drawing on the group's background in software infrastructure for digital interaction, the Southampton team was responsible for the Experience Structure Server in Ambient Wood II and for the Information Linking Service used in City. We have also constructed the infrastructure toolkit

IAM leads the Advanced Knowledge Technologies IRC and is uniquely positioned to conduct research on the bridge between knowledge technologies and ubiquitous computing, for example in ArtEquAKT and CoAKTinG
