The University College of London

The Virtual Environments and Computer Graphics group at University College London has a long standing interest in the construction and utility of virtual environments (VEs). Within Equator we are most interested in virtual models and how they can be enlivened with dynamic information from the real world.

UCL's technical expertise is in rendering and animation algorithms for large-scale models. Our current work involved city-scale environments populated with dynamic crowds of people. We also run a Trimension ReaCTor - a four-walled CAVE-like device that completely immerses the user.

UCL also has expertise in the evaluation of IVEs, a theme of work that dates back to our early studies on the sense of presence in virtual environments. We are particularly interested in application of IVEs that rely on a high sense of presence, and our current focus is on social siutations and the utility of IVE in treating certain phobias.
