Research Interests: Summary
The main area of my research is the study of the human reactions in the Virtual Reality (VR) environments. Evaluate the sense of Presence in VR is the actual field where I’m involved, and in particular my work starts from the idea that high level of Presence means perceive realistic stimuli from the virtual environment. This leads that a good measure could be physiological responses (i.e., ECG, GSR and respiration), which have to be similar in VR and in real situations. Work in progress: At the moment I’m doing analysis on the physiological signals, recorded during different VR studies. Analysis are made in time and frequency domain, comparing the results trough different sessions and conditions in the same study. An analysis in the neighbour of some particular events is on going, to see if a characterization of the physiological behaviour is possible. Project contribution: Many experiments have been done in VR fields, to test the possibility of an use of the VR in medical/psychological treatment, like agoraphobia. The event Break In Presence has been studied as a statistical measure of the level of presence and from the physiological point of view. This research is being carried out within the "Digital Care" theme. Publications: |
