Supporting reflection with a passive image capture device
Summary
I am exploring the ways in which a wearable passive image capture device, the ‘SenseCam’, might support various types of reflection. The SenseCam is a prototype device presently under development at Microsoft Research in Cambridge. It combines a digital camera with a number of sensors and is designed to be worn around the neck. Images are triggered by various sensors a couple of times a minute to build up a kind of pictorial diary of your day.
I am looking at how these captured images may support people carrying out reflective practice, specifically in a physiotherapy setting. I am also looking at other situations where reflection on captured images may support us, for example where we learn from experience and situations that occur in our everyday lives.
In addition to my own research I have been involved in the Ambient Wood II project and the E-Science project. I also worked at Microsoft Research in Cambridge in summer 2004 carrying out research into the use of camearphones.
