Embodied creativity: A process continuum from artistic creation to creative participation

Summary

My interdisciplinary research combines interactive media art and embodied cognition (embodied-embedded and enactive) from the perspective of creativity. Research into artistic creativity is currently not looking at contemporary art forms that exploit technological developments to design interactive artistic spaces for intimate engagement. Similarly, the field has yet to include the latest research developments in normative cognition, the understanding that cognition is embodied. I focus on the creative process in interactive artworks as it is currently understood in the humanities, namely that the lines of creative engagement between creators and audience are blurred. To investigate this matter I have collaborated to create Sim-Suite, an interactive installation game where members from the audience participate on balance-boards. I use this artwork to apply a mixed method approach analysing both creative processes, that of the collaborating creators and the participating audience, to understand the role of the body in creative cognition.
